Houston day 3

With the first leg of the trip coming to an end we decided to take the day leisurely by meeting another mate and visiting two small entertainment complexes to count coaster credits. Being a Holiday Inn point collector too it turned out quite nice that Martin was in the same hotel as us and he was happy to drive us to the two locations in the North of the city.

First port of call was the Zuma Fun Center home of Minor Mike, a tiny little kiddy coaster.

No vagabundos! We don't want your sort here :D

A vagabundo yesterday. Remember a vagabundo is for life, not just for Christmas.

Minor Mike was down for maintenance, which is a shame as it looked like it may have been a challenging ride and by challenging I mean trying to fit in it.

Second complex of the day was it'z which is a indoor park with a buffet, that you have to take part in if you're to be let in. The place works by buying a card that you pay to charge up and which is discontinued as you ride. Just like an oyster, although these rides are probably more reliable and less stuffy.

Their coaster is called it'z express and its a rather lengthy kiddy ride.

Just look at the layout! The good news on this one was that the ride was actually running once you'd rung the bell to get the staff's attention to let you in. We were allowed to get to go around a few times, which if I kept a record of total distance covered on my rides would be way down the list.

it'z also has a disk'o ride which are quite fun so we decided to pay for a go on that too.

Yes it really does run that close to the wall.

Proof if you don't believe me! It makes the ride a little different to others I've ridden that are outdoors. Whilst you don't really get that close to the wall you do still try to find yourself reaching out to touch it...or perhaps that was just us.

With both parks hit and a 50% success rate achieved in terms of coasters we then made our way to Houston Airport, dropped off the car and waited for the others to arrive. Setting up base in the bar (where else) everyone started dripping into arrivals like the ending of Stand By Me but in reverse. Soon after the club flight landed and we made our way onto our coach to head to the first park, Kemah Boardwalk.

En route we passed the largest refinery plant I've ever seen. At night I bet this place looks like the opening sequence of Blade Runner.

See what I mean?

Continuing our journey we soon arrived at the Boardwalk, its new coaster Boardwalk Bullet taking the vista away from the sail-less boats. Being welcomed by the park staff, grabbing our wristbands and getting our handstamps (extra security apparently) we all headed straight for the ride.

Misspelling illegal should be made illeagal

A young kid goes through a rite of passage by holding onto only the bar whilst the train thundered past. He got the fright of his life, which his dad seemed to enjoy. He got his comeuppance though when he was told the kid was too small to ride and he had to escort him back to his mother waiting outside. Rather strangely we were well down the queue but when we got to the station all the other members were queuing for the front and back, which meant Jeppe and I were the first in the group to ride it.

The ride itself is ridiculously powerful and a real challenge to ride. It's not rough but it does a lot to you; they've really squashed a lot of track into the footprint. I hope it is maintained well because I feel its ripping itself apart and could become quite lethal pretty quickly in its lifetime.

Aside from the coaster, which was pulling the crowds, the rest of the park is pretty laid back yet quite well themed.

Not surprisingly the water attractions were also popular especially with those too small to ride the coaster.

Oh, haha!! The seagulls are on a diet. You make me laugh (quote Stewie Griffin)

We didn't eat at Joe's. We ate somewhere else then spent the next hour on a toilet tour. I think I managed 5 exclusive sessions there.

I quite liked the boardwalk but if it wasn't for the coaster I probably would have no reason to ever go there. Its a nice area and the people were very friendly but the food portions were huge! There is a saying that everything is bigger in Texas, certainly the appetites are :D

From here we headed to the first hotel in the MiddleOfNowhere, TX ready for the next day where we'd hit Six Flags San Antonio.
